The VHCT541A is an advanced high-speed CMOS device fabricated in a silicon-gate CMOS process. It achieves high-speed operation similar to an equivalent bipolar Schottky TTL while maintaining CMOS low power consumption. The VHCT541A is an octal buffer/line driver that can be used as a memory and address driver, clock driver, and bus-oriented transmitter/receiver. This device is similar in function to the VHCT244A, while also offering a flow-through architecture (input on opposite side of output). This pin-out arrangement makes the device ideal for use as an output port of a microprocessor, which simplifies layout and enables better PC motherboard density. Protection circuitry ensures that 0V to 7V is applied to the input and output (Note 1) pins regardless of the supply voltage. This device can be used to interface 3V systems with 5V systems and both power systems, such as battery backup. This circuit prevents damage to the device due to mismatched supply and input voltages.
