The NCP1612 is an active power factor correction (PFC) controller designed for use as a boost pre-converter in AC-DC adapters, flat panel TVs, lighting ballasts, and other medium power off-line converters. The controller is based on the innovative Current Controlled Frequency Foldback (CCFF) method. In this mode, the circuit normally operates in critical conduction mode (CrM) when the inductor current exceeds the programmed value. When the current is below this preset level, the NCP1612 will decrease the frequency linearly, down to approximately 20 kHz when the current is null. CCFF maximizes energy efficiency at nominal and light loads. In particular, standby losses are minimized. The controller has a rich set of protection features to properly handle the power array under operational and fault conditions. This device has a dedicated PFC_Okay output especially for the PFC stage of the LLC controller.
