The MC14543B BCD to 7-segment latch/decoder/driver is designed for liquid crystal readout and is built with complementary MOS (CMOS) enhancement mode devices. This circuit provides the functionality of a 4-bit memory latch, 8421 BCD-7 segment decoder and driver. The device has the function of inverting the logic level of the output combination. Phase (Ph), Interval (BI), and Latch Disable (LD) inputs are used to invert the truth table phase, interval display and store BCD codes respectively. For liquid crystal (LC) readouts, apply a square wave to the Ph input of the circuit and the electrical common backplane of the display. The output of the circuit is directly coupled to each segment of the LC readout. For other types of readings, such as Light Emitting Diode (LED), Incandescent, Gas Emissions, and Fluorescent readings, connection diagrams are given on this data sheet. Applications include instrument (such as counters, DVM, etc.) display drivers, computer/calculator display drivers, steering display drivers, and various clock, meter, and timer uses.
