The VHC164 is an advanced high-speed CMOS device fabricated in a silicon-gate CMOS process. It achieves high-speed operation similar to an equivalent bipolar Schottky TTL while maintaining CMOS low power consumption. The VHC164 is a high-speed 8-bit serial-input parallel-output shift register. Serial data is input through a 2-input AND gate that is synchronized to the low-to-high transition of the clock. The device features an asynchronous master reset that clears registers and sets all outputs low independent of a clock. An input protection circuit ensures that 0V to 7V is applied to the input pins regardless of the supply voltage. This device can be used to interface 5V systems with 3V systems and both power systems, such as battery backup. This circuit prevents damage to the device due to mismatched supply and input voltages.
